The Rainbow Trout

Last night, I dreamt we got ourselves a rainbow trout,

half-inched from some river in North America.

It caught our eye under the trembling surface

like sunlight moving over a mirror.

And when we opened it up, like a purse,

I imagined that instead of guts it contained gold.

And as I picked my way through its stomach

I was simply looking for loose change.
