The Jack Russell
with a yellow pencil trapped in his jaw
runs between our argument – we stop
our mouths, you and I, caught by the sight of him
as he paws, bows and scribbles on the lino

To you both

I just can't do this anymore



and exits the cat flap         

flap-flap flap.
